In 2005, with the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the United Nations and with the perspective of the celebration, in September, of the World Summit where the reform and renewal process of the UN should have been approached, UNA-Spain wanted to make a contribution to the debate with the organisation of two seminars in Madrid and Barcelona. These events, entitled “Multilateralism in the XXIst century. Strenghtening and Democratisation of the United Nations”, had the participation of experts, academics and representatives of United Nations organisms. The final conclusion that resulted from the seminars were presented during the Hearings of the General Assembly with civil society, on the 23rd and 24th of June of 2005. Due to its trascendency, the creation of the new Human Rights Council has been undertaken in many activities of UNA-Spain, like the courses developed by now on the “Protection of Human Rights inside the United Nations system”, or in the Human Rights committee of the Catalonia Model United Nations. Likewise, after near a year of the new Commission on Peacebuilding started functioning, UNA-Spain held, in October of 2006, a seminar to analise the performance of the Comission so far and its possibilities, with the participation of personalities from the academic, politic and institutional world.
